Skinned Deep, an American thriller directed by Gabriel Bartalos and released in 2004, is highly recommended to those who love in the genre of horror. The Rockwell family gets lost on the highway and ends being stranded with an eccentric family. As the story continues, it becomes apparent that the family's involvement in illegal activities, and is a risk to the Rockwells. The revelation is no surprise.

Skinned Deep is an unforgettable horror film due to its outrageous set pieces, funny moments, and its rapid-fire cutting. The humor and speed of the film were lauded by the reviewer from Variety, Dennis Harvey, who described the film as "funny and very repetitive." It was however noted that Steve Barton of Dread Central has only given the film 2.5 stars, citing the frequent use of old fashioned cliches and monotonous narrative as motives for his rating. Due to the effects, the visual that is reminiscent of the 1980s, as well as its exuberant the pace, Ryan Larson of Bloody Disgusting said it was "one very funny and bizarre horror films in the decade."

The tiny budget that it was running was going to prevent Bartalos from putting together a horror movie that was reminiscent of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre or The Hills Have Eyes. Instead, the filmmaker improvised the science fiction/slasher combo that's totally illogical not to mention completely off the mark. The fact that Bartalos had previously worked on the special effects for the well-known horror films such as "Frankenhooker" as well as "Brain Damage" prior to working on "Skinned Deep" is proof of his love for the fantastical.

Skinned Deep is a good option for those who are seeking something different to experience, despite its budget-friendly production and outdated (Decker Shado review) special effects which may put off some viewers. After the first half hour, which seems like an exact copy of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, the film takes something different that makes its horror film one of the originals of the decade. It helps earn its spot among the top films in the genre. It's a film of horror that is sure to stay with you due to its distinct tone and eccentric ensemble, which is comprised of the plate-throwing madman known as Plates and the Surgeon General.

The most memorable aspects that are most well-known in Skinned Deep are the various creature design and effects applied throughout the film. Bartalos who is in the field of visual effects creation, conjures up an ensemble of bizarre and frighteningly intriguing characters, and then brings they to life. The characters, ranging from the deadly plates that hurl food to the armed Surgeon General, are distinct in their appearances and personalities, which reflect in their appearances and designs. An incredible amount of effort went into making-up and clothing which are the major reason for the film's mysterious atmosphere.

The film's use of realistic effects, music strongly influenced by the 80s and a vibrant color palette contribute to the film's distinctive nostalgic vibe. In addition, while giving something new to the genre of horror the film pays homage to several of the most memorable films from the genre's history.

Although the story has been tried before, the film's implementation is where its strengths lie. The audience is kept on their toes by the Bartalos universe because it's both unpredictable and bizarre. There will be little time for you to breathe between the numerous instances of violence and destruction occurring.

Many people don't like Skinned Deep. It's weird, strange and sometimes bizarre at times. It's quite bizarre. Horror fans who are keen to watch one that takes innovative risk in this genre should consider giving it a shot. Skinned Deep is able to be distinguished from other horror films due to the fact that it was inspired by an original concept and the fact that Bartalos set an emphasis on the creation of realistic effects.
